TRANSGENDER DISCRIMINATION

Transgendered persons suffer most of the same types of discrimination as other members of the GLBT community, such as being denied equal rights for employment and housing, being damned by political and religious extremists, and vitriolic hatred from loved ones and family. However, some types of discrimination is far more prevalent against transgendered people than any other group of people.

In grades K-12, with rare exceptions (mostly only in Seattle), transsexual teachers are fired after transitioning.

Despite progress made by transsexuals on the job, workplace dress and conduct rules generally do not allow any transgender expression.

Restrooms are a never ending source of problems, since the right restroom by appearance can be the wrong restroom by capricious enforcement of the law.

Hate crimes of unimaginable violence are directed toward transgendered persons at a terrifying frequency of two or three per month.
